Statewide Power Building Organizer (Bexar, Dallas, or Harris County)

About the Texas Organizing Project (TOP): Founded in 2009, TOP is the leading statewide organizing group in Texas, advancing racial and economic justice through community and electoral organizing. Our programs are anchored in the three largest metro regions of the state: Houston, Dallas and San Antonio. TOP has a base of more than 300,000 members and supporters who reflect Texas’ growing population of Black and Latino families. Through on the ground organizing, grassroots leadership training, direct action, policy advocacy and electoral engagement, TOP has made substantial gains in policy solutions and public investments in neighborhood infrastructure, family sustaining jobs, affordable housing, community schools, health access and immigrant rights that have improved the lives of our communities. TOP also runs the largest independent grassroots electoral field operation in the state, engaging hundreds of thousands of voters of color each election cycle.

Position Summary: In late 2025 TOP staff and members selected a statewide campaign issue that will anchor our fight to build and win power in Texas. The Statewide Power Building Organizer will build and develop a large team of member-leaders who will organize to grow our base and develop leaders to build the collective power we need to win healthcare for all Texans. The Statewide Power Building Organizer is responsible for planning and executing base-building strategies in partnership with member-leaders , ensuring that members are actively organizing to recruit new members and develop leaders from directly impacted communities. This position requires the ability to work closely with a team of member-leaders to develop their leadership skills and expand their capacity to grow and sustain our membership base statewide. This will allow TOP to scale up our organizing efforts to build the people-power we need to win the Texas we deserve. This is a full-time permanent position and reports to the Organizing Director.

Key Areas of Responsibility:
● Achieve grant-based measurables by building a team of 30-50 member-leaders, develop a strong membership base with a focus on directly-impacted community members from Black and Latino communities, and move this base to take action that builds power and wins our healthcare campaign demands.
● Recruit, train and develop the team of 30-50 member-leaders on implementing organizing tools and practices (door knocking, phone banking, one on ones, holding effective meetings, data, etc.) to reach organizing and campaign goals, and develop our base in accordance with TOP’s established leadership ladder.
● Facilitate and lead effective meetings and one on ones with member-leaders.
● With support from the Organizing Director and Campaign Director, execute the campaign plan with grassroots leaders to achieve short and long-term victories, and make measurable progress toward our campaign demands.
● Contribute to and support member-leaders in carrying forward the work of TOP being a pro-Black organization that is dismantling racial capitalism.
● Work with the Organizing Director to build the organizing culture of TOP.
● Establish good working relationships with community partners to help achieve the goals of the organization.
● Develop and manage membership recruitment, development, and retention systems with the Organizing Director.
● Consistently track, input, and support member-leaders to input data into the EveryAction or other databases, training provided.
● Participate in electoral organizing during election season on an as needed basis, including door-knocking and phone-banking.
● Embody TOP values, putting into practice organizational and individual development practices.
● Flexibility to travel as needed per job requirements.
● Assist with other duties assigned as necessary.

Qualifications:
● At least three years of experience as community organizer, including base building and leadership development.
● At least two years of experience building and developing a large campaign committee rooted in winning a campaign.
● Personal interest, passion and demonstrated track record of success in leadership development of grassroots leaders and engaging new communities in social justice and racial justice work.
● Relentless drive, tenacity and a willingness to do what it takes to advance our mission and animate TOP’s values: Solidarity, Visionary, and Regeneration.
● Personal and professional commitment to do the challenging work of building a pro-Black organization that is on a path to dismantle racial capitalism.
● Excellent written and verbal communication skills with a demonstrated focus on outreach and giving and receiving input/feedback.
● Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines, and work in a fluid and fast-paced environment.
● Excellent time management, project management, and delegation skills.
● Critical thinking and problem solving skills.
● Ability to work effectively with strong personalities, peers, public officials, and allies.
● Willingness to work long and often irregular hours, including evenings and weekends (flex scheduling available)
● Full time access to an insured car with a valid driver’s license.
● Computer competency – Word, Google Suite, Internet required; Experience in working with database systems a plus

***This position is within a bargaining unit that is represented by a union.

Salary & Benefits: The salary for this position is $55,000-$60,000 or commensurate with
experience. Benefits include: comprehensive medical, dental, vision, 401(k), staf development, paid
holidays including a week-long summer break and year end week of rejuvenation, personal time,
parental leave, sick leave, and travel reimbursement.
