Dear Partner in our Movement,
Like many of you, we felt the weight of this presidential election and results in our state. Yet, our commitment to building real political power in Texas remains steadfast. Donald Trump’s latest win only strengthens our resolve to fight even harder for Black and Latino communities that fuel our state.
TOP was built on the belief that communities too often ignored by those in power deserve a voice and a seat at the table. Over the past 15 years, we’ve brought thousands of Texans into the movement, electing community champions and changing policies that impact everyday lives. And while we won’t have the full data from this election for a few weeks, early indicators show that the turnout we fueled in our communities remained strong. Though we’re devastated by this election outcome, we have no regrets about our efforts. Every dollar, every call, and every conversation you and others helped make possible went directly to building the power and voices of Black and Latino communities in Texas. We adapted, organized, and stayed in the fight right until the polls closed.
We are proud of our get-out-the-vote work based on the early voting data we have. The physical areas of voter turnout we oversee, we do well. We are a trusted messenger to our communities, understanding of what core issues matter to the well-being of Black and Latino Texans, and the conversations it takes to move people to vote, organize for change, and become more civically engaged.
Two years ago, we conducted in-depth studies of Black and Latino voters in Texas, and the findings of those still hold true today.
The biggest challenge remains scaling our work to reach even more of Texas. Engaging with a greater share of working Texans, particularly infrequent or new Black and Latino Texas voters, provides us with an opportunity to connect on everyday issues impacting them, and share how electing people-powered candidates and fighting for progressive policies can get us closer to a Texas that truly works for all ― no matter our age, race, faith, or gender.
Texas’ future will be built on conversations that matter — the ones we’re having in neighborhoods across our state’s urban centers. Now more than ever, as far-right efforts grow to spread misinformation and stoke fear, our work is essential. By engaging Black and Latino communities with a bold vision of shared safety and prosperity, we protect the progress we’ve made and win new ground.
We aim to build on this momentum. We’re appreciative of your ongoing support that allows us to continue our vital work in critical areas, expanding our programs to make an even greater impact.
With gratitude,
