About the Texas Organizing Project (TOP): Founded in 2009, TOP is the leading statewide organizing group in Texas, advancing racial and economic justice through community and electoral organizing. Our programs are anchored in the three largest metro regions of the state: Houston, Dallas And San Antonio. TOP has a base of more than 300,000 members and supporters who reflect Texas Growing population of Black and Latino families. Through on the ground organizing, grassroots leadership training, direct action, policy advocacy and electoral engagement, TOP has made substantial gains in policy solutions and public investments in neighborhood infrastructure, family sustaining jobs, affordable housing, community schools, health access and immigrant rights that have improved the lives of our communities. TOP also runs the largest independent grassroots electoral field operation in the state, engaging hundreds of thousands of voters of color each election cycle.
Position Summary: Texas Organizing Project is seeking a talented and dedicated Immigration Organizer to build our organization through helping drive a campaign for immigrant rights in Harris County. The immigration organizer will help build a base of directly impacted people in Black Immigrant communities, through our standard outreach practices at TOP which include canvassing and phone banking.The ideal candidate is an experienced community organizer who believes deeply in the importance of building community leadership, capacity and people power. The Immigration Organizer will work in partnership with other staff and leaders to together drive campaign strategy and execution. They must be able to organize and effectively communicate at all levels – with grassroots community people as well as established community leaders and policy experts. The Immigration Organizer will report directly to the Immigration Justice Director and will also work closely with existing community leaders, community organizers and core partners in building TOP as an organization.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
● Practice all safety protocols, including COVID-19 safety requirements.
● Build a base of TOP members, the majority of whom are directly impacted by immigration issues, who will participate in demanding changes from decision makers and creating the political climate that allows for those changes to be adopted.
● Using a campaign committee structure, recruit, turn out, and develop community leaders across a variety of low and moderate income neighborhoods of color.
● Consistent (weekly) community outreach and base-building responsibilities, including but not limited to canvassing/door-knocking; phone banking, text banking, etc.
● Organize and drive turnout to events including campaign meetings, press conferences, town halls, and forums, etc.
● Move people to action, by having them complete surveys and any applicable petitions. Survey/petition quantity goals will be set in collaboration with your manager. Organize direct actions, and other tactics to move the campaign forward on a regular basis.
● Consistently track and input data into EveryAction database, training provided
● Coordinate campaign messaging, traditional media work, mass communications, and digital organizing with TOP’s communications and digital department.
● Manage and develop relationships with key stakeholders and decision makers.
● Participate in Black immigrant coalition spaces at the state and national level. Develop and manage relationships with partner organizations to move the campaign forward. This may include joint strategy meetings, joint actions or other events, etc.
● Participation in electoral organizing during election season on an as needed basis, including canvassing/door knocking, phone-banking
● Enhance our reputation and brand, and promote our values.
● Collaborate, support and work on other campaigns as necessary.

● One year experience in community organizing
● Strong commitment to social, racial, economic justice and building Black and Latino power across Texas
● Personal interest and passion for leadership development of grassroots immigrant leaders and engaging new communities in social justice and immigrant rights work
● Ability to manage multiple tasks and deadlines, and work in a fluid and fast-paced environment. Self-discipline and rigorous work ethic.
● Collaborative and team-oriented work style
● Critical thinking and problem solving skills
● Excellent written and verbal communications skills
● Bilingual Required (English and another language)
● Ability to manage personal transportation needs to move efficiently to different locations
● Basic, demonstrated skill set with computer use, including email (checking, responding and sending emails with attachments); ability to use Google Suite (opening, sharing and creating google docs)–Some training, but not exhaustive training will be provided; ability to complete virtual phone banks in database (VAN)–VAN training will be provided
● Ability to work irregular hours including nights and occasional weekends (position is full-time salaried FLSA exempt)
Salary: $50,350 – 53,000; Generous benefits package includes: comprehensive medical, dental, vision, 401(k), paid holidays including a weeklong period of rejuvenation at the end of each calendar year, vacation, parental leave, sick leave, and travel reimbursement.
