Political Field Coordinator (Dallas or Harris County)

About the Texas Organizing Project (TOP): Founded in 2009, TOP has become a leading statewide organizing group in Texas, advancing racial and economic justice through community and electoral organizing. Our programs are anchored in the three largest metro regions of the state, Houston, Dallas and San Antonio. We have a base of over 277,000 members and supporters who are reflective of Texas’s growing population – people of color, low moderate income families. Through on the ground organizing, grass-roots leader training, direct action, policy advocacy and electoral engagement we have made gains in policy solutions and public investments in criminal justice, neighborhood infrastructure, family sustaining jobs, affordable housing, community schools, health access and immigrant rights. TOP and its partner PACs have also run the largest independent grassroots electoral field operation in the state, running programs in four of the largest counties.

Job Description: TOP’s culture is a highly collaborative environment that engages staff and members as full partners. TOP’s Political Field Coordinator is responsible for canvasses in our core counties of Dallas, Tarrant, Harris, Fort Bend and Bexar year round to continue to build out TOP’s political program and elect TOP value aligned candidates in the 2024 election cycle. This includes managing and training a team of canvass managers across the state to ensure the success of our GOTV program statewide. At TOP, we fight with two fists – people power and political power. Our political engagement is a key component of our larger goal to build sustainable power in Black and Latino communities. It is also rooted in the theory that the path to transform Texas is to increase voter participation in Black, Latino and other communities of color. We seek an experienced and energetic professional with community and political organizing experience who will strengthen our political fist at TOP. A strong candidate will have experience managing staff, designing and executing canvass programs, understanding the political landscape of Texas, be solution oriented, and have strong communication skills across departments.

Core responsibilities include:

Managing Paid GOTV Efforts Statewide
● As part of TOP’s political team, co-create our statewide voter engagement plan to increase voter participation in Black and Latino communities as well as ensure TOP endorsed candidates win.
● Supervise Canvass managers in each of TOP’s core GOTV counties (Dallas/Tarrant, Harris/Fort Bend & Bexar County)
● Ensure all admin documents are completed including onboarding, timesheets, incident reports and warnings in each of the counties.
● Manage any changes to a canvass program – with support from the Electoral Strategy Coordinator.
● Keep track of the statewide budget of the program with support from the Electoral Strategy Coordinator & Finance team.
● Manage vendor relationships for paid GOTV programs
● Track metrics for programs statewide to ensure deliverables are being met at a statewide level.

● Researching candidates and races TOP’s members have endorsed to ensure canvass managers are equipped with all the information they need to secure support for our candidates.
● Weekly strategy check in with Data, digital, communication, logistics, finance and compliance – Strong communication throughout the program is required.
● Daily check in with team leads and staff support.
● Travel to each county during GOTV is required.

Other Responsibilities:
● Work with Data team on program debrief with staff and members
● Working with staff and members to integrate political strategy into their campaign efforts
● Outside of election season, will continue to manage a small canvass in Bexar, Dallas and Harris
● Work with Electoral Strategy Coordinator and Data team in Building win scenarios for TOP electoral campaigns and bottom-lining all win scenario work
● Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Competencies:
● Strong commitment to social, racial and economic justice
● Minimum three years of experience working in organizing or electoral spaces
● Strong interpersonal, organizational, and presentation skills
● Ability to work well with all religious, cultural, ethnic and social groups
● Ability to identify, recruit and develop canvassers
● Experience running or managing electoral programs
● Willingness to work irregular hours including evenings and weekends
● Willingness to learn and grow within the TOP culture
● Intermediate experience with VAN & google sheets.
● Computer competency – Zoom, VAN (or other electoral database), Google Docs, Internet required;

Characteristics of the Position
● Regular travel.
● Willingness to go the extra mile to get the job done.
● Some evening and weekend hours will be required – with ramp up during election time.
● Position reports to TOP Electoral Strategy Coordinator

***Salary: $75,000 – $85,000. Benefits include comprehensive medical, dental, vision, 401(k), paid holidays including a weeklong period of rejuvenation during the summer and at the end of each calendar year, vacation, parental leave, sick leave, and travel reimbursement.
