The following statement is from Jessica Azua, Immigration Justice Director with Texas Organizing Project (TOP) in response to Gov. Greg Abbott announcing today that the State of Texas would bus and fly migrants on a voluntary basis to Washington D.C. in a slight toward the Biden administration:
“Gov. Abbott is no leader; he’s only an attention-craving right-wing agitator.
“Abbott’s latest stunt seeking to score political points off asylum-seekers in need of immediate humanitarian relief is as absurd as it is reprehensible.
“Our governor will stop at nothing to elevate his profile, so long as it receives praise from far-right extremists. His wasteful and unconstitutional Operation Lone Star is proof of this.
“Working-class Black and Latino Texans can see right through Abbott’s continued political theatrics, and they are more than ready to cast their votes against him and his Republican enablers this November.”
