TOP PAC Endorses Rochelle Garza for TX Attorney General

Garza is ready to lead and restore integrity to TX AG Office

Today, Texas Organizing Project (TOP) PAC is proud to announce the endorsement of Rochelle Garza for Texas Attorney General in the state’s Democratic primary runoff. Garza received an impressive 43 percent of the vote last month in the attorney general’s race in the Texas Democratic Primary. An accomplished litigator, she has consistently shown her commitment to defending the rights of marginalized Texans in pursuit of improving the lives of working-class families. Garza’s values, lived experience, and time spent representing everyday Texans as a civil rights attorney make her an excellent candidate for our state’s attorney general seat.

Recognizing the urgency of the moment and significance this statewide elected office carries, TOP members overwhelmingly decided to endorse her candidacy last month, after previously endorsing civil rights attorney Lee Merritt for Texas Attorney General in the March 1st primary.

Once in office, Garza will work to reverse years of damage inflicted by far-right Attorney General Ken Paxton while utilizing the powers of her position to implement meaningful progressive change, especially for Black and Latino Texans who have been failed by our state’s legal system.

“Ken Paxton is the embodiment of political corruption and right-wing authoritarianism in Texas. For years, Paxton has catered to the dangerous whims of Donald Trump and other far-right politicians, all while weaponizing the attorney general’s office to infringe on people’s constitutional rights – from access to the ballot box, to abortion, to seeking asylum, and more,” said Brianna Brown, TOP Co-Executive Director. “We must end Paxton’s terrible reign for the last seven years and fight for the future wellbeing of our democracy. That means electing into the attorney general’s office an actual leader who will serve the needs of working-class Black and Latino Texans, not demonize them. Rochelle Garza is that leader.”

“With so much on the line for our Black and Latino communities in this upcoming midterm election, we can’t afford to stay on the sidelines. We have to be relentless in our efforts to push back against Texas Republicans’ attacks on our humanity and advance a bold vision where all working-class Texans can thrive,” said Carmen Ivonne, a TOP board member in Houston. “TOP sees in Rochelle Garza a person who is not afraid to speak truth to power and lead with our shared progressive values. This is exactly the kind of leadership we need right now as we seek to vote out our state’s indicted attorney general, Ken Paxton. TOP is excited to join Rochelle and her campaign in this fight.”
