TOP: “Sens. Cruz, Cornyn endorse white nationalist violence with acquittal vote of Trump”

The following is a statement from Michelle Tremillo, executive director of the Texas Organizing Project (TOP), in response to the U.S. Senate voting to acquit former President Trump in his second impeachment trial:

“Senators Ted Cruz and John Cornyn today chose to endorse white nationalist violence through their vote to acquit one-term, twice-impeached former president, Donald J. Trump. That’s the message they and the majority of Senate Republicans sent today.

“The images and videos of the failed coup attempt by far-right extremists on January 6 are forever etched in our minds, and a haunting reminder of how white supremacy left unchecked manifests in the most vicious of ways.

“Texans will not be gaslit by our complicit senators. With Trump out of office and rightfully muzzled online, their decision to acquit him of the blatant incitement of violence we all witnessed is even more cowardly.”
