The following is a statement from Brianna Brown, deputy director of the Texas Organizing Project (TOP), in response to the U.S. House of Representatives voting to impeach President Trump for a second time:
“Today’s vote brings us one step closer to removing from power the white nationalist threat that is Donald Trump. Impeached for a second time, his presidency will go down in history as the colossal bigoted failure it is.
“From the moment he descended that escalator to announce his presidential run, Trump has unleashed a world of racist vitriol on Black and Latino communities that most recently culminated in the deadly mob violence we saw in Washington at the hands of white supremacists.
“With the House having done its part, we now demand Mitch McConnell bring back the Senate to immediately convict and remove the president for the charge of “incitement of insurrection.” Any failure from senators to fulfill this should be seen as an endorsement of the far-right, white supremacist brutality that tore through the U.S. Capitol.”
