Brianna Brown, TOP Executive Director, provided the following statement:
“The murder of Alex Pretti at the hands of federal agents is a watershed moment for our nation. It’s never been clearer that ICE and Border Patrol are being weaponized by Donald Trump to attack entire communities and anyone who opposes their unjust use of force. These agencies are endangering lives and MUST be reigned in.
“Millions across the country are furious after not only witnessing another state-sanctioned murder, but once more being shamelessly lied to by our government.
“The political fallout from this violence is taking shape and must happen to its fullest extent, as Border Patrol Commander-At-Large Gregory Bovino has now been relieved of his post and White House officials are discreetly adjusting their tone.
“Even Greg Abbott, always a MAGA lackey, is distancing himself from what’s transpired in Minneapolis. This momentum shift IS people-power in action, and groups like TOP are working to drive that shift through organizing Texans to help them make sense of this volatile moment.
“TOP grieves with the loved ones of Mr. Pretti and the entire Minneapolis community, as they process yet another brutal injustice. Our organization also joins the growing chorus of people in our country demanding the U.S. Senate halt funding for ICE, CBP, and Border Patrol until the violence, abuses, and deaths in our communities and immigration detention centers come to an end.”
